With pre-season well underway I wanted to send out a quick update. The Varsity team traveled to San Antonio Northside Tournament where they defeated Madison and Legacy and losing two to Clark and East Central. Although we battle with unforced errors, the team learned from the mistakes and came away with a motto to "not dip from the team bucket". Each of us has an invisible bucket. It is constantly emptied or filled, depending on what others say or do to us. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it is empty, we feel aweful. Each of us has an invisible dipper. When we use the dipper to fill other people's buckets - by saying or doing things to increase their positive emotions - we also fill our own buckets - by saying or doing things that decrease their positive emotions - we diminish ourselves. Quote is from How Full Is Your Bucket by Tom Rath & Donald O. Clifton.
The following weekend the team traveled to New Braunfels for the Frauline Tournament where the competition just got stronger. We had two wins and three losses but the team did a fantastic job supporting one another with very few dips into the bucket. On Wednesday Night the teams traveled to Westlake where none of our teams faired very well. The next afternoon the varsity headed to Houston to play in the prestigious Pearland Tournament. The varsity won 5 matches overall and lost 3. Day one we defeated a strong Cy-Falls team Clements and lost to a very good College Park team. Entering day two and happy to be in the Gold Bracket we opened with Marcus High School and won the match in two. Then we played Flower Mound and some how the error bug took over and we dropped the match. Day three we were playing to stay in the top 10 of the tournament as we started the day with Keller Central and defeated them in two. This earned us the right for a rematch with Westlake that the girl's were looking forward to. We defeated Westake in two as we pounded away at there defense. Now the fun really began as we earned the right to play the 2009 State Champions Amarillo High. I was very proud of the girl's approach to the match. I think they respected there opponent, but they were not going to back down to them. It was a tough match with points being traded back and forth. We may have dropped the match but the girl's left the tournament with a new level of respect for themselves and there teammates. I know our team won't win every match, and sometimes we fall short of our goals, but together they now step onto the court with the confidence that we're going to give it everything we have to succeed. Thank You girl's for a fantastic weekend of volleyball.
Thanks to all the parents for traveling with the team and supporting the girl's every step of the way.
Coming up this weekend the Junior varsity and both freshman team will travel to Bowie HS to play in there first pre-season tournament, good luck ladies I hope you grow as a team the same way varsity was able to during tournament play. If you bring hope some the brass well that's just icing on the cake !!!!!
